A person who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight children and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC stated materials including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities once more.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
